EDCATS Community – Powered by Purpose!
Each of the letters of EDCATS has a purposeful meaning!
E = Exceptional Experience
Your experience at K-State is determined by you and your professional interests. Our field experiences program provides exceptional exposure to schools in urban, rural, and even military-connected districts.
Curious about education in other countries? Participate in study abroad, where you’ll learn and practice teaching culturally appropriate strategies unique to that environment. Like research? Join the honors program and participate in undergraduate research. Whatever your path to the classroom, an exceptional experience awaits you!
D = Dedicated Faculty & Staff
From research to instruction, our award-winning faculty are celebrated education leaders who have more than 1,000 years of combined K-12 teaching experience. We practice what we teach. Our team of academic advisors are with you from your first campus visit through obtaining licensure and every point – marked by success and challenge – in between.
C = Connected Community
Being an educator is all about relationships. Surround yourself with future teachers in any – or all – the College of Education’s student organizations. Be a Student Ambassador, join EdCat Council or become a member of the Kansas National Education Association – Aspiring Educators program.
That’s just the beginning. K-State offers additional organizations across campus where you can make your mark. Relationships you create will carry with you for a lifetime!
A = Advocates for All
We’re ushering in second- and third-generations of existing programs and establishing new ones, like Call Me MISTER designed to attract men of color to the teaching profession. Our college’s Military/Veteran Educational Initiative came to life in 2012 after merging departmental and programmatic activities into a college-wide framework for preparing educators to serve military personnel, veterans and their families in educational settings.
The college has produced a number of documentaries and posted them for educators to use for free. Our priority is to prepare you to effectively teach all students!
T = Technology & Innovation
Today’s educational environment demands technology and innovation. Teachers need multiple strategies to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual learners. Education-related apps and platforms are being created every day and can be a valuable teaching tool. Therefore, we equip future teachers with the most powerful educational tool in history: the iPad. Our technology initiative has not only provided our students with the latest technology, it has saved them more than $700,000 on textbooks!
S = Student-Centered
Our approach to teacher preparation draws on the latest research and brain science concerning the learning process, then infuses it with creative techniques designed to engage, challenge and empower students in a supportive and collaborative environment. As a student in the College of Education, you will gain skills that will ensure your success, whether working independently or as a collaborative team member in a professional environment.
