Our professional academic support staff in the Center for Student Success and Professional Services will help you evaluate your strengths and interests, choose classes each semester, discover opportunities for involvement, and work to find solutions to issues that arise. We will act as your guide, from applying for admission to the professional program, graduation, initial teacher licensure, and beyond. We work with you to navigate the challenges and successes you face as a student at K-State and in the College of Education to make your trip as smooth as possible.

Advising is required as a condition for enrollment. You are responsible for initiating advising contact and preparing for advising sessions.

The application for admission to a teacher education program may be submitted when the applicant has satisfied all of the admission requirements. Transfer students who have satisfied all the admission requirements should apply at the time of initial enrollment. Students making changes in degree programs within teacher education must reapply for teacher education.

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) requires two Praxis® tests for a Kansas Teaching License: a pedagogy test, the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT); and a content test for each area you are endorsed. These tests are part of the Praxis® tests. These tests are not required for graduation but are required for your teaching license. Therefore we recommend that you take these exams the semester prior to student teaching or the semester prior to graduation.

Student and Credit Transfer Information

We, the faculty of the College of Education, support a standardized system for monitoring qualitative aspects of individual student performance. While these qualitative aspects are not separate from such quantitative indicators as grade averages, the latter are monitored by a centralized system that is designed to ensure that exceptionally strong or weak performance will be noticed and will receive timely recognition and attention. We wish to be, at least, equally confident that qualitative aspects of student performance are receiving timely recognition and attention.

Aspects of Performance

Students placed on academic dismissal normally must wait at least two regular semesters before they will be considered for readmission. This is done to provide students time to evaluate and redefine educational goals, and to address circumstances that negatively impacted academic performance. While waiting, dismissed students may complete courses at other institutions. Courses taken at other institutions will not change the K-State grade point average, but may serve to demonstrate improved academic performance. There is no guarantee of readmission to the University after the waiting period.

If after the waiting period you wish to be considered for reinstatement to the College of Education, you must meet with your College of Education advisor and then submit the application below to darwinb@ksu.edu Approval for readmission into a College Education program of study (major) will be considered upon meeting with your advisor, completion of the application, and attendance at an individual hearing before the Academic Standards Committee. This hearing is called a Reinstatement Hearing. To schedule your hearing, please call 785.532.5524.

Should you wish to change your major to a program in another college at Kansas State University, you must petition for readmission into that college. Contact the dean's office of the other college for information about their readmission procedures and hearing dates.

Commencement exercises are held at the end of the fall and spring semesters. You are strongly encouraged to participate. You may obtain information about commencement from the Registrar’s Office Graduation Information website .

The Graduation Application must be submitted on-line through KSIS within the first four weeks of the semester in which you plan to graduate or during the first two weeks of the summer session. This application is used to check whether all degree requirements have been completed and is a necessary checkpoint before graduation.

It is important to apply for a Teaching License upon graduation, even though you may not plan to teach immediately or you may be moving to another state. Delaying application for a Kansas license may result in the need to meet new test or coursework requirements at the time you do apply.

While the expectations of the college or computing access can be met by many platforms and software packages, when purchasing technology equipment, students should consider that faculty and staff in the College of Education use iPads and Apple Macintosh computers, and that virtually all hardware and software technology assistance provided through the college is Apple-based or compatible. The staff in our Catalyst Center will attempt to help students resolve compatibility issues and are trained to provide Apple-based technical support.
