John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership Program

The K-State John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership Program is designed to provide an innovative approach to a doctorate degree for those seeking to enhance their leadership competence in leading transformation at community colleges and to provide leadership and organizational development for sustained contributions to the college, districts, and communities they serve.

There has never been a community college leadership program with such a community-college centric curriculum, with a learning-centered cohort model accessible to participants, with such strong support from the university and sponsoring community colleges, and coordinated and taught by some of the most seasoned and capable community college leaders in the nation.

Program participants will be prepared to create and foster a culture focused on community college student learning, equity, success, and completion; lead institutional transformation and foster innovation; and develop a competitive advantage through national networks of colleagues.

This program is designed to:

  • Focus all courses on community college culture and issues

  • Engage professors who are nationally known leaders and have had successful careers as chancellors, presidents, provosts, senior faculty in the community college movement to teach future generations of community college leaders

  • Convene cohorts of students to encourage collaboration and engagement

  • Bring the courses and the professors to the cohort

  • Position the local college/district as a learning laboratory

  • Engage a national network of community college leaders and aspiring leaders

  • Earn an applied Ed.D. in three years

Dr. John E. Roueche"No quality is more vital to the success of today’s community college than leadership. Because minority students are more likely to be the first members of their families to attend college, first-generation student challenges will be compounded as the minority population increases. Our leaders must be equipped to meet students as they arrive at our doors and prepare them for being effective contributors to their communities."
– Dr. John E. Roueche

"Dr. John E. Roueche is adding an entirely new dimension to our college’s already impressive educational leadership offerings. Those doctoral students who participate in the CCLP are part of a national network of community college leaders and aspiring leaders who gain from the valued Roueche doctoral program experience. We are excited about the exposure this program brings to the college and even more so about the potential to raise K-State's national profile and attract students from all across the country. Every college across our campus will likely benefit from this association." – Dean Debbie Mercer, K-State College of Education
