Graphic Organizers/Visual Aids

"Visual aids and graphic organizers play a vital role in an ICB (Integrated Content-Based) lesson because they provide the contextual cues from which CLD students can make meaningful connections to the content. Therefore when teaching and ICB lesson, teachers plan for an increased use of visual support and realia throughout the lesson. These instructional aids help students focus their thoughts on the lesson material and make connections regarding relationships among interrelated pieces of information. Such tools also help students uncover and organize the topic-related understandings and ideas they bring from their prior experiences and background knowledge." (Herrera & Murry, 2005, p. 236).
