Admission & Financial Aid
Click on the following link to the KSU
Research & Graduate School for information on application and
admission to the graduate programs available at KSU. The College of Education Office of Graduate Studies can answer most admissions questions. E-mail coegrads@ksu.edu or call (785) 532-5595 from 8-12 and 1-5 Central Standard Time, M-F. While the KSU Graduate
School course and information catalog can be consulted for the Certificate, programs, and courses, there is an ECDOL Course Timetable for each program option (to the right of that page), with a current listing of program requirements and courses listed by semester.
Financial Aid
The Student Financial Assistance Office can answer questions about financial aid. Assistantships are not offered in ECDOL. However, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application should be filled out before April each year to get aid. Other forms of tuition aid, including Education Graduate Student Organization (EGSO) travel funds, etc., are available for presentations and other needs.
Certificate, Two Master's Degrees and Ph.D. Program Information:
Quick Answers to Admission Questions:
1. Are any of these options fully online?
A. Yes, all options can be taken completely online.
2. How much residency time is required?
A. There are no residency requirements.
3. Do you accept the GRE, MAT, or either one as part of the admission?
A. The GRE is not required for the Certificate or Master's Degrees. It is required for the Ph.D. degree.
4. Are there admission deadlines?
A. No. It depends on when you wish to enroll and your program requirements. While you are applying to the program you can take up to 9 hours. It is recommended that you take EDCI 718, Learning Technologies, or anequivalent basic technology course, first. EDCI 718 divides the class into groups, though individual work is also done, to help you become accustomed to KSU and online coursework. It is offered every semester.
5. How much technology background would I need?
A. You need a basic background of using technology in school, university, business or training setting appropriate to your particular environment. You are in the program to become knowledgeable about the use of various educational technologies, both in theory and in practice.
6. Is this a cohort program?
Yes. New students should take the introductory course before this sequence, EDCI 718 Learning Technologies, to get a basic grasp of Web 2.0, 3.0 and the uses of technology in instruction and training. Once EDCI 718 has been taken, each fall a new group begins with EDCI 887. The Certificate students take only EDCI 887, while the master's and doctoral students take both EDCI 887/888, which lasts the entire academic year (fall and spring semesters). We use various conferencing tehcnologies weekly for class and skill purposes. We videoconference once a week for 1.5 hours. There is an ECDOL listserv, a Facebook page, and Twitter access, as well as other technologies that change each year.
7. How many times a year do you accept new students?
See #4. The KSU College of Education has"rolling admissions", with two summer sessions (June and July), the fall semester, which begins in August, and the spring semester, which begins in January, so it depends on the individual situation.
