Entry
into the Ph.D. Program (Year One)
Establish
Program of Studies and a Doctoral Committee
The program of studies should be completed within the first year or 9-12 hours. This committee is composed of 4 people – your major professor and three others, one of which must be from another department. This program is located in Curriculum and Instruction Department. This committee will be responsible for providing questions for your Preliminary Examinations, which must be obtained from committee members at least six months prior to scheduling the exam, and are taken over halfway through the program (most take them in summer), reading your dissertation proposal and meeting, as a committee to review it before you are allowed to collect data, and then convening for your final dissertation defense. This committee should be contacted within the first year or so.
Take
Courses According to the Program of Study
Your
program includes a previous masterÕs degree (30 hours) and a minimum of 30
hours of coursework (depending on research skills), plus 30 hours of dissertation research. Those not having a masterÕs degree in
Education or technology skills typically have one or more prerequisite courses
to take to acquaint themselves with the field before beginning work on the Ph.D.
